I remember watching the 2023 WNBA Finals and saw a lot of coverage all over social media. The day after the LV Aces won the championship, I saw a post from Togethxr on Instagram. It was a simple infographic highlighting the power of numbers. They had it correct, numbers don’t lie.
I had never heard of Togethxr until I saw this post and I immediately followed because I liked how supportive and influential their community is towards women’s sports. The post also informed me on things I didn’t know like it was the franchise President, Nikki Fargas second season with the team and they won championships for both of those seasons. That is a girlboss slay and is very impressive! Togethxr was founded by four amazing female athletes: Alex Morgan, Chloe Kim, Simone Manuel, and Sue Bird.
Their website says, “With a focus on rich storytelling, TOGETHXR is an unapologetic platform where representation and equality is the norm. A place where culture, activism, lifestyle, and sports converge.”
Togethxr’s IG post from October 19, 2023 provided a lot of insightful information on the LV Aces such as they are the first team in the entirety of the WNBA history to have their own designed facility. They also included the average of fans in attendance at the WNBA finals which was the highest average since 2015. Why does this matter? Well, it means that more people are showing up for women’s sports and are interested in the WNBA.
Togethxr is a fantastic platform for female athletes to get the coverage they deserve. Rather than waiting for someone else to build a place to celebrate the legacy of women and dedicated to sharing their stories, Togethxr decided to do it themselves. According to their website, “Women make up 44% of all participants in sport yet only receive less than 15% pf sports media coverage.”
Infographics stand as a powerful tool in championing the narrative and visibility of women’s sports. Through dynamic visuals and concise data representation, they break down barriers, challenge stereotypes, and illuminate the remarkable achievements of female athletes. Harnessing the power of infographics amplifies the voices and impact of women in sports, paving the way for greater recognition, respect, and equality in the sporting world.
