Michaela Taylor is a senior at the University of Oregon School of Journalism and Communications (SOJC) majoring in public relations and minoring in sports business. She serves as the Events Director for UO Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) where she plans fundraisers and events for the chapter. PRSSA has provided Taylor with professional development skills such as networking which allowed her the opportunity to shadow the Social Media Manager for the Portland Timbers and Thorns during a Thorns match. There she observed how the social media account is run for a gameday and how a post-game press conference is done.
Prior to her college journey, Taylor was in the US Army as an Intelligence Analyst. As an analyst, she had to read and assess intelligence reporting to provide a briefing to senior leaders daily. She also had to engage and work with a variety of people from different units and intelligence functions.
In the fall, Taylor was featured on the SOJCs social media platforms for a student spotlight. She was interviewed and got to share her story about what brought her to the SOJC. As a transfer student, she has learned to adapt and pursue her goals in a shorter amount of time at UO. Taylor worked as a teachers aid for a transfer seminar where she assisted transfer students within the SOJC, finding the resources they needed to succeed during their time on campus.
Taylor has an interest in working within sports communications where she can take her passion for sports and apply the skills she is learning within the SOJC, to obtain a career in the sports industry. She will start a blog called GIRLBOSS this winter where she can write about women slaying in the sports industry. Taylor can be reached at michaela.taylor323@gmail.com or on LinkedIn.
